These Terms of Service (Terms) govern your use of Pocket Professor, including our mobile application, websites, and related services (collectively, the Service).
In these Terms, Pocket Professor, we, us, and our mean the operator of the Service. You and your mean the person using the Service.
By creating an account, purchasing Credits, or otherwise using the Service, you agree to these Terms and our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.
1. The Service
Pocket Professor uses artificial intelligence and other automated systems to analyse articles and, where available, the sources cited in those articles. The Service may provide summaries, claim assessments, source-quality information, credibility assessments, and observations about hype or potential red flags.
The Service is intended to help you explore and assess information. It is not a substitute for reading the underlying material or for your own judgement.
2. Important AI and professional-advice disclaimer
The Service uses artificial intelligence. AI-generated outputs can be incomplete, inaccurate, outdated, biased, or otherwise unsuitable for your circumstances. An output, score, label, summary, or assessment produced by the Service is not guaranteed to be correct or complete.
You must independently assess the information and, where appropriate, review the underlying article and cited sources before relying on an output from the Service.
The Service does not provide medical, health, legal, financial, investment, scientific, academic, or other professional advice. Do not use the Service to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent a condition, or to make a decision that could materially affect a person’s health, safety, finances, legal rights, or other important interests. Seek advice from a qualified professional for those decisions.
3. Eligibility and accounts
You must be at least 18 years old, or have the authority of a parent or legal guardian, to use the Service. You must provide accurate account information and keep your sign-in credentials secure. You are responsible for activity that occurs through your account.
You must promptly tell us at pocketprofessor1@gmail.com if you believe your account has been accessed without authorisation.
4. Credits and purchases
4.1 Credits
The Service uses credits (Credits) for article analyses. The number of Credits required, the available Credit packs, and their prices are shown in the Service before purchase. Credits are personal to your account, are not transferable, have no cash value, and may not be resold. Unless applicable law requires otherwise, Credits expire two years after the date of purchase. The applicable expiry date will be disclosed before purchase.
4.2 When a Credit is used
When you submit an article for analysis, we may temporarily reserve one Credit from your available balance. Credits may be used for completed analyses and, in some circumstances, for analyses that cannot be completed because of the article, URL, or information you submit.
If an analysis cannot be completed because of an issue with our Service, our servers, or internet connectivity, we will generally release the reserved Credit back to your account.
Our current rules for when Credits are used, reserved, released, or returned, including the treatment of unsuccessful analyses, are set out in the Credit Usage FAQ available in the Service. The Credit Usage FAQ forms part of these Terms.
We may update the Credit Usage FAQ from time to time to reflect changes to the Service, analysis process, fraud prevention, or applicable law. A material change that adversely affects the treatment of Credits will apply only after we provide reasonable notice in the Service, unless a more immediate change is required for security, fraud prevention, or legal compliance.
We may use reasonable submission, processing, and error records to determine how a Credit should be treated. We will correct an error in your Credit balance where required by law or where we determine that we made a mistake.
4.3 Payment and refunds
Purchases may be processed by Apple, Google, RevenueCat, or another authorised payment provider. Their terms and policies may also apply to your purchase.
Except where required by applicable law or the applicable app-store/payment-provider policy, purchases of Credits are final. Nothing in these Terms excludes, restricts, or modifies any consumer guarantee, refund right, or other right that cannot lawfully be excluded.

5. Your submissions
You may submit article URLs and related information to the Service. You represent that you have the right to submit that material and to allow us to process it for the purpose of providing the Service.
You retain any rights you have in material you submit. You grant us a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free licence to access, copy, process, transmit, store, and display that material only as necessary to operate, secure, improve, and provide the Service, including to retrieve the linked article and analyse relevant cited sources.
Do not submit personal information that is unnecessary for the Service, confidential information you are not permitted to disclose, or material that infringes another person’s rights.
6. Acceptable use
You must not, and must not help another person to:
- use the Service unlawfully or in a way that infringes another person’s rights;
- use the Service to provide professional advice, make clinical decisions, or make high-impact decisions about another person;
- submit harmful code, attempt to disrupt the Service, circumvent Credits or payment controls, scrape the Service, or interfere with its security;
- reverse engineer, decompile, or attempt to extract source code or underlying models except where applicable law permits this; or
- use the Service in a way that is fraudulent, abusive, misleading, or likely to damage Pocket Professor or other users.
7. Third-party content and sources
Articles, websites, cited sources, and links accessed through the Service are controlled by third parties. We do not own or control that content and are not responsible for its availability, accuracy, legality, or quality. A reference to a source or an assessment of a source does not mean that we endorse it.
You are responsible for complying with the terms of the websites and sources you access.
7.1 Sample article attribution
The sample analysis available through the “Try sample link” feature uses content from “Eunice Newton Foote” on Wikipedia. The content is provided by Wikipedia contributors under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 4.0 International License (CC BY-SA 4.0). Pocket Professor has modified and summarised the source content for demonstration purposes. Wikipedia and the Wikimedia Foundation are not affiliated with or endorsing Pocket Professor.
8. Intellectual property
We and our licensors own the Service, including its software, designs, branding, and content we create. Subject to these Terms, we grant you a limited, personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable licence to use the Service for its intended purpose.
You may use outputs from the Service for your personal, non-commercial purposes. You must not present an output as professional advice, remove attribution or copyright notices, or use our name or branding without our written permission.
9. Availability and changes
We may change, suspend, or discontinue any part of the Service, including features, analysis methods, supported sources, Credit packs, and pricing. Where a change materially affects paid Credits you have already purchased, we will provide notice where reasonably practicable and as required by law.
If we permanently discontinue the Service, we will provide reasonable advance notice where practicable and may provide a reasonable period for you to use any unexpired Credits. Nothing in these Terms excludes, restricts, or modifies a right or remedy that cannot lawfully be excluded, restricted, or modified.
We do not guarantee that the Service will always be available, uninterrupted, secure, or error-free. We may perform maintenance or make changes that temporarily affect availability.
10. Suspension and termination
You may stop using the Service at any time. We may suspend or terminate your access if we reasonably believe you have breached these Terms, used the Service unlawfully, created a risk to the Service or other users, or if we are required to do so by law.
Termination does not affect rights or obligations that arose before termination. Any treatment of unused Credits on termination will be subject to applicable law and the terms presented when those Credits were purchased.
11. Disclaimers and limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, the Service is provided on an “as is” and “as available” basis. We do not warrant that outputs will be accurate, complete, reliable, suitable for a particular purpose, or available at a particular time.
To the maximum extent permitted by law, we are not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive loss, or for loss of profits, data, goodwill, opportunity, or reputation arising from or connected with your use of, or inability to use, the Service.
Nothing in these Terms excludes, restricts, or modifies a right or remedy that cannot lawfully be excluded, restricted, or modified. Where liability cannot lawfully be excluded but may lawfully be limited, our liability is limited to the minimum extent permitted by law.
12. Privacy
Our Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and store personal information. By using the Service, you acknowledge that we may handle your information as described in that policy.
13. Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. We will post the updated Terms in the Service and update the “Last updated” date. If a change is material, we will provide additional notice where reasonably practicable. Your continued use of the Service after the updated Terms take effect means that you accept them, to the extent permitted by law.
14. Governing law and disputes
These Terms are governed by the laws of Victoria, Australia. The courts of Victoria, Australia have exclusive jurisdiction, except where applicable law gives you the right to bring a claim elsewhere.
